Studio Backcountry furniture in a gallery setting

Studio Backcountry is a design practice based in Naarm/Melbourne, working in hand-carved oak and ceramic.

Cameron Morgan is a furniture maker and director of Studio Backcountry. His practice is characterised by a foregrounding of materiality: carved timber forms paired with ceramic details made in-house. Drawing on the principle of simplicity, the work expresses softness, clarity and a sense of charm.

Each piece is made by hand in the studio’s Melbourne workshop, from one-off commissions to small collections, for private clients, interior designers and architects. The studio has exhibited annually at Melbourne Design Week since 2024, including two solo presentations.
